Rant: Tried that spray foam insulation in my garage attic. Big mistake.

Bought a kit from Home Depot in Red Deer back in June. Figured I'd save a few hundred bucks. Got up there with a dust mask and goggles. Sprayed it between the joists. Looked great. Then it started expanding. And expanding. Pushed my drywall down on the sides. Cracked the ceiling below. Now I gotta tear it all out and pay a pro. Learned to just pay the pros for insulation. Anyone else had spray foam go sideways on them?

Bought the same kit from the same Home Depot, but in Leduc. Watched my insulation grow like a bad science experiment for a solid 10 minutes. Ended up with a weird foam stalactite hanging from a light fixture. Had to cut it out with a bread knife. Never again.

@kim_ramirez3, that bread knife bit is WILD. Did you actually take a photo of that foam stalactite before you cut it? I swear these spray foam kits should come with a warning label that says "DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE NOZZLE" because mine did the exact SAME thing. I was spraying a gap in my attic and it just kept expanding and expanding like a monster. I ended up with a blob the size of a basketball that I had to carve out with a cheap hacksaw. What brand was that kit? I can't believe the same Home Depot in Leduc sold you the same explosive stuff.

Ha, the "DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE NOZZLE" warning is exactly what they need. What worked for me was using a serrated knife but waiting until the next day, because that stuff gets way easier to trim once its fully cured. Trying to cut it while it was still expanding was like fighting a marshmallow monster.
