Thought replacing my own water heater would be a weekend job

Figured I'd save a few hundred bucks doing it myself, but between the old galvanized pipes being seized and a trip to code that needed an expansion tank, it took five full days. Anyone else run into hidden problems that turned a simple swap into a nightmare?
