Update: figured out why my basement was damp every spring, and it was my own dumb fault
For three springs in a row I kept blaming the weeping tile and almost dropped $4,000 on a sump pump setup at my place in Red Deer. A guy doing my furnace tune up in April pointed at the downspout by the back corner and just laughed. It dumped water right against the foundation, and the ground sloped back toward the house about an inch per foot. I flipped the extension and added two wheelbarrow loads of clay, and the damp spot by the stairs dried up in a week. Anyone else catch a cheap fix right before spending big money on a contractor?
