Warning about those 'free' home energy audits in Calgary

I signed up for one last fall and it was basically a two-hour sales pitch for new windows. The guy barely looked at my furnace or insulation before giving me a quote for $25,000. Has anyone had a good experience with a company that actually does the audit right?

What a waste of time, right? I fell for the same thing a few years back and felt like a total sucker. The guy spent more time measuring my living room for new windows than he did checking my actual energy use.

Got a real audit last year, saved me money.

Sounds like they're using the word "audit" pretty loosely. More like a two-hour window commercial you didn't ask for. My guy brought a ladder but I'm pretty sure he just leaned it against the house for effect. You'd get more useful info from a fortune cookie than from those sales pitches.

Honestly though, sometimes you gotta hear the sales pitch to even know what's possible. My neighbor got one of those "audits" and the guy pointed out a draft issue he never noticed, which led to a cheap fix that actually helped. Sure they want to sell windows, but bringing a ladder and checking things out is more than most people ever do. Tbh, a free look at your house isn't the worst thing even if you just take the info and walk away.
