Can we talk about the hiring manager in Denver who told me to skip the take-home assignment?
Six months ago I applied for a data analyst job at a logistics company in Denver, and the hiring manager, a guy named Priya's boss, straight up told me during the phone screen to skip the take-home assignment they'd sent me. He said the test was 'just a formality' and that my resume was strong enough to move to the final round without it. I believed him and skipped it, thinking I was saving myself a weekend of work. Got the rejection email 11 days later, and the reason was that I 'did not complete all required steps in the process.' Turns out the take-home wasn't optional at all, it was scored by an algorithm that filtered out anyone who didn't submit it before a human ever looked at my file. That whole thing made me wonder how many other people get bad advice from the very people running the system. Has anyone else been told to skip a step by someone inside the company, only to get auto-rejected by the screening tool?
