Debate: Should hiring algorithms factor in neighborhood data if it reduces bias?

I tried a workaround where I included zip codes in a resume screener to get more diverse applicants, and it actually doubled the interview pool for women. But doesn't that just encode redlining into the system? Which side are you on.

Ask @gavin365 if they'd rather keep excluding women just because it's easier?

Redlining into the system" sounds like my GPS trying to reroute me through a closed highway.

My last job tried this "fix" and suddenly every applicant from zip code 90210 got auto-rejected. Now my GPS really does think redlining means rerouting around traffic jams.
