Overheard a hiring manager laugh at a rejected applicant's quiz score
Last Tuesday at a coffee shop on 5th Ave, two HR folks from a retail chain were talking about their new pre-employment personality test. One said, "Yeah, the algorithm flagged her as too impulsive, so we trashed her resume without even an interview." The thing is, she'd been a store manager for 8 years and had great numbers. I looked up the test vendor later and found zero public validation studies. How are we letting random online quizzes decide someone's livelihood? Has anyone else seen a screener that clearly rewards one personality type over actual job skills?
Wait till you realize those same quizzes are probably screening out the people who'd actually push back on bad ideas, which is exactly who you want running a store... if you ask me the test's real job is keeping the status quo comfortable.
