Remember when people said facial recognition would never be used for small stuff?

I was at a concert in Austin about five years ago and a friend argued it would stay in airports and police work. Then my local grocery store quietly put up cameras for a 'loyalty program' that tracks your mood based on your face to show ads. That convinced me. It went from a big scary idea to a normal shopping trip thing real fast. Has anyone else seen these systems pop up in places you didn't expect?

Read an article about how some of these systems can guess your political leanings based on microexpressions. Kinda makes you wonder what they see when you're just trying to decide between corn flakes.

My phone unlocks with my face, so I guess I already signed up for the weird future.

Guess my face just sold my soul for a free cookie at the mall.

Remember when my grocery store's coupon printer started calling me by name? I was just trying to buy paper towels and it said "Hey Joel, looking tired today, here's a deal on coffee!" I jumped a foot in the air. Now I make weird fake smile faces at the dairy case just to throw off the mood tracker. I probably look like a confused lunatic, but at least my face isn't getting me ads for stress pills.
