Unpopular opinion: the credit scoring algorithm update last year actually helped me
I checked my credit score back in March 2023 and it was around 620. Then that big algorithm change rolled out in June that supposedly penalized medical debt less. By October my score jumped to 680 without me doing anything different. Honestly I think the way they weigh rent payments now made the difference. Has anyone else seen a similar bump for no obvious reason?

My brother's score went up 50 points and he still has a gym membership he forgot to cancel.

Did you ever think those IQ score changes meant something more than just a number? I used to think the same thing, actually, that a few points didn't really matter. But then I saw this study about how kids who play strategy games can bump their scores by 10-15 points over time. It's like, my nephew did it with chess and it totally shifted how I saw it, so now I gotta agree with @claire872 on this one.

My nephew did the same thing with chess actually... started at 98 and got up to 112 over about two years of playing tournaments. But here's the thing people miss, you gotta keep using those skills or they just fade away. I had a buddy who quit playing after college and his scores dropped right back down within a year or so. So if you want that number to stick you basically have to make it a habit, not just a one time thing. Little consistent practice beats a big short burst every time.
