Visiting my old college campus and seeing the new AI admissions chatbot made me think about how much has changed since we just had paper forms.

It was weirdly efficient but I couldn't help wondering if it was screening out applicants from certain high schools without anyone noticing, which is the kind of thing we'd debate in our ethics class 10 years ago.

Is anyone actually checking the training data it was fed before launch?

Guess my old ethics paper on this is looking pretty good now.

Read an article last year about a hiring algorithm that learned to skip over resumes from women's colleges because its training data was mostly men. Makes you wonder what hidden biases these campus chatbots are picking up from past admissions data.
