Can we talk about how I swore renter's insurance was a scam until my neighbor's kitchen fire cost him $18k out of pocket in Cincinnati?
I always blew off the $15 a month as a waste since my landlord has his own policy, but after standing in the hallway of our building on Gilbert Ave last Tuesday while the fire crew hosed down unit 3B and my neighbor kept saying "that's not covered by him, that's on me," I signed up the next morning, so does anyone have a cheap company they actually like for a small one bedroom?
Wait, did your landlord actually tell you he has his own policy that covers your stuff? Because that part matters a lot here. Most landlord policies only cover the building itself, not a renter's belongings, and they usually don't cover your liability if someone gets hurt in your unit or you accidentally start a fire. So was your landlord just talking about the structure, or did he tell you his policy covers you too? If it's the latter, I'd want to see that in writing before trusting it.
