Dropped $80 on a mold test kit, got a shock instead
My bathroom ceiling in the Denver rental had a brown spot spreading after three months, so I bought a DIY mold test kit for $80 and it lit up like crazy. The landlord tried to say it was just old paint until I showed him the lab printout, then he quietly sent a remediation crew. Would you trust a cheap test kit over a pro inspection, or did I just get lucky with a pushover landlord?

Ha! That's awesome, good for you for not backing down. I had almost the exact same thing happen at my old place, except my landlord tried to play dumb until I literally put the petri dish in his hand. He was all "well, that's just a home kit" but the lab results were right there, so he had no leg to stand on. Honestly, those kits are pretty solid for the money if you follow the directions, and they give you real proof. You definitely got the win, but I also think most landlords will fold the second you show them paperwork because they don't want the headache. Lucky you had a pushover, but also lucky you didn't just ignore that brown spot.
