Rant: My smart lock died when I needed it most, near downtown Seattle
Last month my battery drained overnight, and I stood outside my 3rd floor unit at 11pm with groceries, no key, and my phone at 2%. Those wifi locks are great until the power fails, has anyone else had this happen and what backup do you keep now?
3rd floor walkup at 11pm with groceries and a dying phone sounds annoying, sure. But you had a phone, which means you had a neighbor, a building manager, or even a 24 hour convenience store to charge up at. People survived without smart locks for like a hundred years. The real issue is you put all your eggs in one battery powered basket and got surprised when it failed. I keep a spare key in my car and another with a friend who lives five minutes away. That's it. Not exactly rocket science.
