The dryer vent hose in my new place was held on with packing tape
Moved into a unit last month and the laundry room smelled like burnt dust on day one. Pulled the dryer out and found the vent hose wrapped in three layers of clear packing tape, and it was crushed flat behind the machine. Landlord said it was fine for six years, but I measured the airflow and it was basically nothing. Bought a $12 metal clamp and a $9 replacement hose from the hardware store, fixed it in ten minutes. Has anyone else found scary fix-it jobs that the previous tenant just taped over?

Found basically the same thing in my last rental, except they used duct tape and the hose was kinked so bad it had a permanent crease. Dryer took like 3 cycles to dry a small load and the lint trap was always spotless, which should've been my first clue something was real wrong. Landlord tried to tell me it was fine too, but I just fixed it myself and kept the receipt. That cheap fix saved me from a potential fire hazard and honestly a month of utility bills through the roof. Some people really out here treating safety like it's optional decor.
