Am I the only one who just found out how many fridges get junked over a $15 part?

I was reading a trade magazine at the supply house yesterday and it said something like 30% of major appliance repairs are declined because the quote seems too high compared to a new unit. I found a 2018 study that said a huge chunk of those are for simple things like a bad door switch or a worn out drain pump. How do you guys talk a customer off the ledge when they hear a $200 service call for their 8 year old fridge?

Ever try to fix one yourself? That $15 part can feel like a thousand bucks when you're looking at the back of a fridge.

But what if you don't even know which fifteen dollar part is broken? The diagnosis alone can cost more than the repair.

Tell them to go price a new fridge first. That $200 repair looks real good after they see the $2500 tag on a basic model. Usually changes their mind real fast.
