Dragged my GE washer into the driveway vs calling it quits

Old lady's washing machine was banging like a jackhammer on the spin cycle. Had to pick between dropping $150 on a service call or wrestling the thing out to the driveway myself. Found a worn-out snubber ring under there, $12 part fixed it, but my back still hurts 2 days later. Anyone else go full DIY and regret it the next morning?

Wait, @allen.iris, are you telling me that drum actually dented the cabinet from the inside? That sounds way worse than what I dealt with. I only saw the snubber ring was cracked after I wrestled the whole machine out into the driveway, which was honestly the worst part. I wasn't about to pay a repair guy to do something I could mess up myself for way cheaper. But man, my back is still screaming two days later, and I'm starting to wonder if I should've just called it quits and bought a new one.

Did you see the snubber ring was cracked before you pulled it apart or did you just start yanking stuff and hope for the best? Those GE washers have a habbit of hiding that wear until the whole tub goes sideways mid cycle. My buddy had to replace his after the drum got so loose it dented the cabinet from the inside.

Hang on, those GE washers are actually pretty good about showing wear if you know where to look. The snubber ring usually gets a fine hairline crack that's easy to miss unless you shine a light right on it from the side. @kim.nina, you're not wrong about the back pain thing though, I pulled mine out last year and was sore for a week. The real trick is to check that ring before you even start pulling hoses, because once that tub starts wobbling it can trash the whole suspension. My neighbor ignored his for three months and ended up having to replace the entire drum assembly.
