Finally got that old Maytag Neptune washer to stop leaking after chasing a bad seal for almost three hours.

Turns out the main tub seal was fine, but the little plastic clip that holds the boot to the outer tub had cracked and was letting water drip down the front... anyone else run into that on the older models?

Those plastic clips get brittle with age and detergent. Might be worth checking the other ones while you're in there.

Glad you found it, and @the_paul is right about those clips.

Oh man, reesej27, that's such a good point. It's crazy how those little plastic bits just give up over time. I had the same thing happen with the clips on my car's interior panels last summer, just snapped when I touched them. Makes you want to go check every single one in the house now, like on the fridge shelves or even the vacuum cleaner attachments. Once you see how brittle they get, you start noticing them everywhere.
