Hot take: pulling the fridge out to clean the coils every 6 months is mostly a waste, fight me
I've had my own shop here in Reno for 11 years and I keep hearing techs tell customers to pull the fridge and vacuum the coils twice a year no matter what. Half of them never check if it's a sealed system with the condenser built into the cabinet, where there's nothing back there to clean anyway. I've seen people pay $120 for a coil cleaning that did zero for a fridge that was really low on charge from a slow leak. Other side of it: on the old exposed-coil units with pets in the house, a mat of hair really can kill airflow and make the compressor run hot. So which is it, blanket advice or case by case? How do you decide before you even touch the thing?
