Just read that a typical fridge compressor can run for over 20 years if the condenser coils are kept clean.

Found that stat in an old service manual from a training seminar. Makes me wonder how many calls we get that are just from clogged coils.

That stat feels a bit too perfect though. Sure, clean coils help, but that's ignoring all the other parts that fail. I mean, those compressors still have to deal with power surges and cheap capacitors and just general wear. Maybe it's just me, but I've seen plenty die way before 20 years even with perfect care.

So what's the actual average lifespan you see in the real world then? The perfect care stat sounds good on paper but feels off. Just curious what your experience has been.

Our shop sees compressors die at 10 years even with clean coils.
