My old shop vac was so loud it hurt my ears, but a simple fix made it quiet.

For two years I just dealt with the noise, figuring it was normal for a 6.5 HP model. Last week I finally took the motor housing apart and found the intake muffler was completely clogged with drywall dust. I cleaned it out with compressed air and put it back together. The difference was huge, it went from a painful scream to a low hum. What's the most annoying noise you've fixed on a tool?

Ever notice how the worst noises usually come from something simple being ignored? Like a ceiling fan with one loose screw that sounds like a helicopter... or a car door that needs one drop of oil on the hinge. We just learn to live with the grating sound until it becomes background stress. Fixing it feels so good, like you've restored peace to a tiny part of your world.

My old apartment had a floorboard that squeaked like a mouse getting stepped on every time I walked to the bathroom at night. Lived with that jump scare for two years before I finally looked up a fix online. Took five minutes with a screwdriver and it was dead silent. Honestly that tiny fix did more for my nerves than a whole vacation.

WD-40 on my fridge hinge was a total game changer.
