Replaced a capacitor on a 15 year old dryer and it kicked back to life
Had a call last Tuesday in Boise where the homeowner was ready to scrap their old dryer. It would tumble but no heat, classic symptom. I checked the heating element first, that was fine, then the thermal fuses, all good. On a hunch I pulled the capacitor off the motor and it looked slightly bulged on top, nothing crazy. Swapped it out with a $12 part from a local supplier and the whole thing fired right up. The customer said they were quoted $450 for a new one, so they were pretty happy. I guess my takeaway is don't sleep on the less obvious parts just because they look okay at a glance. Has anyone else had a capacitor fail where the visual check almost fooled you?
