Spent $60 on a universal compressor start relay that didn't fit any of my fridges
Bought a so-called "universal" relay off Amazon last month, and it was too wide for three different Whirlpool models I had on the bench. Has anyone else just stopped trusting those generic parts and stick to OEM now?

Man I feel your pain on this one. I grabbed a "universal" start relay off Amazon a while back and the terminals were spaced so wrong I had to bend them with pliers just to get it halfway on. Then the damn thing burned out in two weeks. I've pretty much given up on those generic parts for anything with a compressor now. OEM parts cost more but at least you know they'll fit and last longer than a month. What model Whirlpool were you working on?

I used to swear by those universal relays because they saved me a few bucks and I thought OEM was just a money grab. But after three different "universal" ones failed on a Whirlpool ET8, one of them actually catching fire, I had to admit they're just not worth the headache. OEM parts cost more upfront but they actually fit and last, so I learned that lesson the hard way.
