Stop ignoring the dryer vent boot clips, seriously

I pulled apart a dryer last week where the vent boot came loose and filled the whole back panel with lint. The homeowner said they "just push it back on" every few months. Has anyone else seen these things cause a fire risk from something so simple?

@ben_lewis you got lucky. I've pulled enough lint bombs out of dryers to know those clips fail way more than people admit.

Snap that vent boot clip on tight and never look back. I use a pair of pliers to crimp the clamp just a hair more after it's seated, otherwise those plastic tabs wear down and it'll pop off again in a year. Also check the whole vent run while you're back there, not just the boot. Lint loves to pile up right at the transition from the boot to the flexible hose, that's where most of the resistance starts. Takes an extra five minutes to vacuum that spot and it saves you from cleaning out a lint bomb later.

i hear you on the pliers trick but honestly i've never had a boot clip fail on me even after years. i think people overthink this stuff sometimes lol. most of the time if you just make sure the clamp is actually clicked into the groove and not crooked it's gonna hold fine. as for the lint buildup at the transition, yeah it's a thing but i've pulled vents apart that were supposedly "full" and there was hardly anything there. maybe i'm just lucky or maybe people get paranoid from one picture on the internet. either way i think a lot of this is just preventive maintenance theater haha.
