That $30 ultrasonic cleaner I laughed at actually saved my butt
Picked up one of those cheap ultrasonic cleaners off Amazon just to prove they were junk. Had a customer's dishwasher control board caked in years of hard water scale and grease. Threw it in with some simple green and water for a 10 minute cycle. Thing came out looking brand new and the board fired right up. Anybody else had a cheap tool surprise them like that?

...and see I gotta respectfully disagree a little bit. In my experience those cheap ultrasonic cleaners are hit or miss depending on what you're cleaning. I've had one that worked okay for jewelry but totally destroyed a delicate circuit board by vibrating a tiny capacitor loose. Your mileage may vary but I'd be careful before making that a regular fix.

Maybe you got lucky, but that level of damage is pretty wild for a cheap cleaner to cause. A loose capacitor usually happens from rough handling or bad soldering, not from some ultrasonic vibrations. Unless you're cleaning boards with loose parts already, it's probably fine.
