Watch out for those new Samsung fridge ice makers

Had a call in Tempe last week for a fridge not making ice. The whole unit was just three years old. The new style ice maker motor burned out, cost the guy almost $400 for the part alone. Anyone else seeing these fail early?

It's that "not if, but when" line that really hits home. This feels like everything these days, where stuff is built to just barely outlast the warranty. My coffee maker did the same thing last year, right on schedule. It's frustrating because you pay for a nice brand and expect it to last.

Our 2020 model in Scottsdale had the same motor go out at four years. It's a known weak spot they haven't fixed. I just keep the ice maker off now and use trays.

Yeah, that tracks. @diana_carr66 is right, it's a total design flaw. My neighbor's 2022 model just had the ice maker motor die. They use the exact same part. It's not a matter of if, but when. Samsung just keeps selling these things knowing they'll break.
