DAE find that taking photos of the dig board at the start of every day saved their notes?
Lost about two weeks of context on a site near Tucson last spring because my field notebook got rained on and half the pages turned to mush. Our supervisor had already sent the paperwork in, so I had no idea which layer a bunch of sherds came from.
Now I snap a photo of the board with the site name, date, and unit number written on it before we start digging, then one after each level comes off. Takes maybe ten seconds. When we went back through the old units last month I could match every bag to a photo on my phone, no paper needed.
Not saying it replaces real notes, but as a backup it's stupid cheap. Anyone doing something similar for keeping track of elevation shots?
