I finally found a shortcut for cleaning copper coins from a 1940s site without damaging the patina

Soaking them in warm distilled water for 20 minutes then using a soft bamboo skewer to gently scrape the dirt off worked way better than that soap method I tried first, has anyone else had luck with this technique or found a better way?

Wait I saw something about this on a coin forum a while back. Some people think it's a mint error from a specific batch in the 1940s, not super common but not unheard of either.
