Forget the fancy villa stuff. It's just another old house for rich people. We already know they had big homes and baths. This find just gives us more details we don't really need. It's like finding a bigger version of a toy you already own. The money spent digging it up could go to fixing things people use today.

Okay but "bigger version of a toy you already own" is my whole life... I just spent a weekend organizing my closet and found three identical black cardigans. Guess I'm funding archaeology one pointless duplicate at a time.

Funding archaeology one pointless duplicate at a time" is such a perfect way to put it. I feel that in my soul.

Yeah, "funding archaeology one pointless duplicate at a time" is a funny line, but it's kind of a stretch to call it pointless. Archaeology digs up stuff that tells us how people actually lived, even if it's just another version of something we already knew about. The details matter because they fill in the gaps, not every find has to be a game changer. And comparing a Roman villa to duplicate cardigans is a bit dramatic, don't you think? One is a luxury you bought yourself, the other is history we're literally uncovering.
