Rant: I thought the bone tools from Blombos Cave were overhyped until I saw the wear marks myself
Three years ago I sat in a seminar in Cape Town and rolled my eyes at the whole thing. Then last month I got to handle casts of the pointed pieces from the 2018 dig, and the polish on those tips runs in one direction, which is what you get from working hides, not from dirt moving the bone around. I was flat out wrong about it being a stretch. Has anyone here seen the actual micrographs, or am I the only one who got hung up on the dating layers?
