Saw a weird line of stones near a creek in central Ohio that looks man-made, but the state record says nothing's there.

Could be an old property marker or a collapsed wall, but it's too straight to be natural. Anyone know how to get a real archaeologist to come take a look without sounding like a crank?

What makes you think the state record is always right? I've found a few old farm boundaries that weren't documented. Try contacting the local historical society first, they usually know who to call.

My grandpa's old property line was off by like 30 feet from the county map, so @hugos46 is totally right about that. The historical society guys found the original deed in someone's attic.

Seriously? It's probably just an old farm thing like hugos46 said. I see weird lines of rocks all the time near old fields, leftover from when they cleared land. The state doesn't have time to write down every pile of stones from a hundred years ago. Before you call a professor, maybe just ask some older locals if they know what it was.
