Spent 3 hours with a trowel on a trench vs. 20 minutes with a shovel after watching a field tech demo it
The trowel gave me clean walls but I got way more dirt out faster with the shovel and the stratigraphy still held up fine, has anyone else found a simple tool swap that changed their dig pace?

Used to swear by my standard cultivator until a buddy handed me their claw last spring. That thing tore through clay soil like nothing I'd ever seen before. Now I keep one in the shed and haven't touched the old tool since.

Hate that feeling of wasting time on the wrong tool. I had a similar thing with a pickaxe last summer, totally switched my whole approach after watching someone work a site with a grub hoe. @reese_lee9, your garden claw comment is dead on, it made me think of that same kind of eureka moment. Just a little tweak can change your whole day.
