That time a field school dig site collapsed on us in New Mexico
Back in 2017 I volunteered on a two week excavation near Santa Fe, and on day 9 a test trench wall gave way after a sudden rainstorm. We lost about three feet of a promising profile section that had some nice stratigraphy and burned artifacts in it. The crew lead just said "that's archaeology for you" and moved us to a different grid, but has anyone else lost real data to a trench collapse and how did your team handle the paperwork for it?
