Vent: I used to think scanning a site was just about finding walls, but after the 2021 ground-penetrating radar survey at Jamestown, I realized it's about seeing the whole story underneath.
Has anyone else had a dig completely change how you approach field work from the very first day?

Yeah, that line about "seeing the whole story underneath" hits hard. I had a site where a big geophysical survey showed a huge, unexpected feature right under our main trench area. It totally flipped the plan. Now I push for any remote sensing we can get before breaking ground. It saves time and stops you from missing the bigger picture because you're focused on one small square.

It's like the survey gives you the map before you start walking. Otherwise you're just guessing where to dig and might miss the city for the one house.

Totally get that feeling of the plan getting flipped. It reminds me of how we get stuck on small details everywhere, like focusing on one bad review for a product and missing that everyone else loves it. We need that wider view just to make sense of anything, not just dirt. Makes me wonder how many arguments start because people are just looking at different tiny squares of the same big picture.
