Can we talk about my tire blowing out on I-70 outside Denver and the $310 lesson that followed?
Honestly I was driving back from a work trip near Denver when my rear tire blew out around mile marker 258 on I-70 at like 9pm in the rain. I pulled onto the shoulder, got the spare on after about 25 minutes of fighting with a lug nut that would not budge, and limped to the next exit. The next morning a shop told me the spare was 6 years old and basically dry rotted, so I ended up paying $310 for two new tires instead of the $95 patch I thought I needed. Tbh I never once checked the spare in the 4 years I've owned the car, and the guy said most people don't. It played out fine but I sat in that parking lot thinking about what would've happened if the spare had failed too. How often do you all actually check your spare, or am I the only one who forgot it exists?
