I just changed my mind about paying for those 'premium' AI writing tools after wasting $300 on one that just reworded my own sentences.
I signed up for a year of WriteGenius Pro thinking it would help me brainstorm better questions for this community, but after three months I realized all it did was shuffle my own words around and I could have just used a free text expander.

Brutal. Those tools are basically expensive parrots. They just echo you. The free stuff is just as good for most people. Companies are selling a dream, not real help.

What about the hidden cost of your own time though? Free tools make you do all the thinking and connecting the dots yourself. That's fine for a hobby, but if your job is on the line, paying for something that just gives you the answer can be worth it. It's like the difference between free directions scribbled on a napkin and a real map.

You're right about the expensive parrots. I've seen it happen. A team at my old job spent a ton on a fancy planning tool. It just spit back their own messy ideas in a nicer font. We ended up using a free whiteboard app to actually sort things out. The paid tool looked good in meetings but didn't help us make a real decision.
