I was asking questions wrong for years until a client in Seattle said 'you're making me defend my problem, not solve it'.

I realized my questions were leading and judgmental, not open and curious. Has anyone else had a specific phrase completely change how they approach asking for help?

Honestly, that "defend my problem" line sounds like a client just being difficult. Sometimes you need direct questions to get to the point.

Yeah the "defend my problem" thing is a real phrase from sales training. It's not about a client being difficult, it's about them not seeing the value yet. Direct questions can feel pushy if they don't trust why you're asking. You have to show you get their world first.

Totally get where you're coming from. That pushy feeling is the worst part of any sales call. Building that trust first makes all the difference.

Right? When has pushing hard ever made someone want to open up?
