My mailbox fell off its post during a storm last night and I found it in the neighbor's yard.
The wood was completely rotted at the base, so I spent this morning digging out the old post and setting a new one with quick-set concrete. Has anyone else had a mailbox just give up like that after a heavy rain?

Honestly, that's rough, sorry your mailbox just gave up like that.

Whoa, that's wild. You know, that rotted base might have been a warning sign from the local critters. I've seen mice and squirrels chew through the bottom of wood posts over time, especially if they're nesting in the mailbox. The storm just finished what they started. Maybe check around the new post for any animal holes or tunnels too.

Poor cameronp, that's a real bummer. A mailbox just giving up on you like that, especially after a storm, feels like a personal insult from the universe. I've had things break at the worst possible times and it's just so frustrating when you're not expecting it. The critter theory makes a sick kind of sense, like the local squirrels were waiting for the right moment. Still, having to deal with a broken mailbox and then worry about digging up a new post is a lot. Hope the replacement goes smoother and stays standing for years.
