Pro tip: I asked a question about a specific tool and got a totally wrong answer.
I posted here last week asking for the best way to check a site's backlink profile. Someone told me to just use a free tool and gave me a name. I ran my main client's site through it and the report said they had zero backlinks. That's impossible, they've been in business for ten years. I paid for a real tool and found over 200 links. Learned that free tools can give you bad data that messes up your whole plan. Has anyone else gotten burned by bad advice on a free SEO tool?

Yeah, free tools can really let you down like that. I've seen them miss entire chunks of data before, which is a huge problem if you're making decisions based on it. Always worth checking a couple of sources if you can.

Ugh, that's rough. Honestly though, even some paid tools have sketchy data sometimes.

Actually, I've found the free ones can be surprisingly solid lately! You just have to know which ones to trust.
