PSA: I keep seeing people at my local hardware store buy the wrong size drill bit for concrete anchors.

Been there, done that, stripped the hole. It's a classic weekend warrior mistake. You grab a bit that matches the anchor's width, but you forget the sleeve needs room to expand. For a 3/8-inch anchor, you actually need a 1/2-inch bit. If you use the smaller size, you'll just spin the anchor in a hole that's way too tight, and it'll never hold. Always check the box or the anchor specs for the right drill bit size, it's never the same number.

This exact thing happened to me last month putting up a shelf. @hayden_craig95 is totally right about checking the box. I see it all the time now, people assuming the size on the package is the drill bit size. It's like a universal rule for small projects, the listed size is almost never the tool you need. You have to read the fine print or you're just making more work for yourself. It's a simple step that gets skipped because we're in a hurry.

So you're telling me the secret to home improvement is just reading the box? Honestly, that feels like cheating.
