The 4 hour battle with a simple plumbing leak under my kitchen sink

I had a slow drip under the sink that I figured would be a 20 minute fix, but it took me 4 hours because every pipe I touched started leaking too (old compression fittings are the worst). On one hand, forcing through it taught me more about my home's plumbing than any YouTube video ever could. On the other hand, I could have just called a plumber for $150 and saved my whole Saturday - has anyone else debated the DIY vs pro cost when a small problem spirals out of control?

Learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I always keep a cheap set of backup pipes and fittings handy so I can swap out anything that breaks. Honestly if the water's off and you're already 2 hours deep with no end in sight, call the plumber before you do more damage.

Makes me think this applies to so many things in life honestly. Like when I tried fixing my lawnmower and ended up breaking the carburetor worse because I thought I could do it in 20 minutes. Same with electrical work - swapped out a light fixture and somehow tripped the whole basement circuit. The backup plan is smart but the real lesson is knowing when you're in over your head. Two hours of frustration usually means the next two hours will just be more expensive mistakes.

150 bucks to save a Saturday is a steal compared to the cost of new drywall and a ruined cabinet.
