The day my trailer brakes locked up on I-80 in Wyoming, everything went sideways
I was about 40 miles east of Laramie when the brake pressure gauge started dancing and the tractor started pulling hard to the right. Pulled over at a rest area, and sure enough, the air lines on the trailer had a crack that was bleeding pressure. Took me two hours to find a wrench that fit the gladhand fitting, and by then it was dark and cold, like 14 degrees with wind. A local mechanic from a town called Burns came out with a used line he had in his truck, charged me $60 and a six-pack of Dr Pepper. That whole day was supposed to be a 450 mile run, turned into 9 hours of roadside repair, but honestly the guy's kindness made it one of those weird good days. What's the most random thing a stranger has done for you when you were stuck somewhere?
That "weird good day" part hit me hard because I had the same thing happen with a dead battery outside of Flagstaff. Some guy in a beat-up F-150 pulled over, gave me a jump, and then just sat there talking with me about fishing for an hour while my truck charged. He wouldn't take any money, but I handed him a bag of beef jerky from my cooler and he grinned like I'd given him gold, which honestly made the whole delay feel less like a disaster.
