Hit 1000 stack frames last night on my deep sky image of Orion

I've been processing this one M42 shot for like 4 weeks now, adding more frames whenever I get clear skies. Finally got it to 1000 sub exposures after last night's session. That's about 8 hours of total integration time which is way more than I ever thought I'd bother with. The noise reduction is honestly insane compared to my usual 200 frame shots. How many frames do you guys normally stack before you feel like the returns stop being worth it?

my buddy started stacking moon shots and quit after 50 frames because clouds ruined everything else.

Blame @moore.beth for reminding me of this pain. I feel that. Stacking moon shots is brutal when clouds roll in. You spend an hour setting up and then poof, gone. Fifty frames is a solid start though, most people quit after ten when they see the haze. Moon stacking needs like 200+ clean frames for good detail. People don't realize how much patience it takes.
