Just realized how much light pollution messes with our photos after checking a dark sky map
The Bortle scale site showed my backyard is a class 7, which explains why my Milky Way shots always look washed out. Anyone know a decent dark site within an hour of Cincinnati?

Oh man, I feel that pain. My place is a solid class 8, so even the bright stars get lost in that orange glow. It's so frustrating when you spend all that time setting up, and the final shot just looks like a gray soup. I've had to drive almost two hours just to find a decent class 4 spot. It makes a world of difference for picking up those faint details in the Milky Way core.

Ugh, that's the worst. It's like everything these days... you have to go way out of your way just to find the real thing. Good coffee, quiet, a dark sky... it all feels like it's getting pushed further and further out. Makes you really work for the simple stuff.
