My $40 dew heater failed at 2am in the backyard, so I broke out the camping gear
I was in my backyard last Friday trying to shoot the Orion Nebula with my little 72mm refractor, and around 2am the dew heater died on me. The lens fogged up, the stars turned into blobs, and I'd already blown through 45 minutes of exposure time I couldn't get back. I ran inside, grabbed a hand warmer and a wool sock, taped that thing to the dew shield, and managed to salvage 20 more frames before the moisture came back. Everyone says you need fancy heated bands for this hobby, but a $2 hand warmer got me further than my $40 heater did. What's your no-budget fix when gear dies in the middle of a session?
