My shot of the Orion Nebula went from a fuzzy blob to showing actual structure after I finally learned how to stack 45 frames in DeepSkyStacker.

What's the biggest jump in quality you've seen from learning one specific processing step?

Oh man, for me it was figuring out how to actually use layer masks in Photoshop. My early edits looked like someone smeared neon paint on the sky. Once I got the hang of brushing adjustments onto just the nebula and not the stars, it was like night and day, no pun intended!

DeepSkyStacker is great for that first step, but it's really just a stacking tool. The real jump for me came from learning proper stretching and color balance in something like Siril or PixInsight. Those programs turn a stacked file into an actual picture.

But what about the stacking step itself?
