The Orion Nebula looked way dimmer in my 2015 phone pic compared to the one I took last night with my new telescope.

I finally saved up for a Celestron 6SE and the difference in those ten years is INSANE, like seeing a whole new object, so what's the biggest upgrade YOU ever made to your astro setup?

My biggest upgrade was going from a cheap department store scope to a used 8-inch Dob. I mean, I went from seeing a gray smudge to actual spiral arms, it was a bit of a shock.

Remember seeing my first real view of Saturn through a friend's decent scope. It was just a bright dot in my binoculars, but then there it was, rings and all. Makes me get what @paulw53 means about that shock from a real upgrade. Changes the whole thing from looking at pictures to actually being there.

But what if that first gray smudge is part of the fun? I kinda liked the challenge of trying to see more with less.
