Vent: shot the same nebula from my backyard in Tucson two years apart and the difference is wild
Back in March 2022 I took my first crack at the Orion Nebula with a stock DSLR and a kit lens on a cheap tripod, and honestly it looked like a blurry pink smudge with maybe 4 stars visible. Last night I shot the exact same target from the same spot in my yard, only this time I had a proper tracking mount and about 3 hours of stacked exposures, and I can actually see the trapezium cluster and the dark dust lanes running through it. Same sky, same light pollution, same guy behind the camera, but the gear and the patience made a night and day difference. I pulled both files up side by side and just sat there for a minute, because I remember being so proud of that first smudge. The biggest change honestly was just learning to stack and stretch the data instead of expecting one 30 second shot to do everything. Has anyone else gone back and reshot an old target after leveling up their setup, and did it feel as weird as it did for me?
