Heard a guy at the parts counter say he 'fixed' a dent with a plunger
Was picking up some filler at the NAPA on Broadway near my shop when this guy walks in and starts telling the counter guy he pulled a dent out of his door with a toilet plunger. I thought he was joking but he was dead serious, said it worked perfect and saved him $300. I wanted to say something but I just let it go, maybe he got lucky on some old soft metal. But it got me thinking about all the crazy stuff customers try before coming to us. Had a lady last month who tried to fix a cracked bumper cover with super glue and duct tape, made it way worse. Has anyone else heard some wild repair methods from the general public?

That bit about the super glue and duct tape cracked me up... I had a guy come in once who used expanding foam to fill a rust hole on his truck bed, said it was "structural" and everything.

Nah, expanding foam actually seals moisture out pretty decent if you trim it right, can't knock a budget fix that works.

Cracked up at @wade250's expanding foam guy calling it structural. Seriously though, the plunger thing almost makes sense on some older cars with thin metal, but I tried it on my beater Civic once and just bent the panel even worse. Guess some people get lucky and some of us just end up making a bigger mess for ourselves.
