Just learned how much a gallon of some factory paints actually costs
I was watching a video from a guy who works at a high end restoration place, and he said a gallon of a specific Porsche color can be over $1,200. I always knew it was pricey, but that's a whole new transmission. Anyone else ever get sticker shock on a paint code?

Totally get it, I had the same shock looking up a gallon of Mazda's Soul Red Crystal. Logan658 is right about the cost being in the formula. That specific tri-coat process is a nightmare to match, and you're paying for all that development to make it look deep and perfect straight from the can.

That price is crazy but it makes sense. They are not just selling paint, they are selling the exact formula and color match for a rare car. The cost covers all the research and testing to make it perfect. It is for people who need a show quality finish, not just a touch up. Regular factory paint is still expensive, but nothing like that special order stuff.
