Question about using a heat gun on a dent that had a sticker over it

I had a dent on a 2018 Civic quarter panel with one of those thick vinyl stickers stuck right over the damage, so I tried warming the area with a heat gun for about 90 seconds before pulling and the glue softened just enough to let the metal move without tearing the decal.
